The inspiration for the Smart Wall design came from the need to address the layout challenges of the existing hallway. The hallway was directly open to the dining area, which created a lack of privacy. Additionally, the living room, located on the left side of the hallway, had a height difference that needed to be addressed. To overcome these challenges, Li Lang introduced a stairway with several steps between the hallway and the living room.
To further enhance the functionality and visual appeal of the space, two inclined walls with folding lines were incorporated into the design. These walls serve multiple purposes - they tighten the vision of the stairway, creating a focal point, and act as a visual block for the dining area, ensuring privacy. The inclusion of a partition wall and a change in the direction of the stairway to the left helped optimize the space and create a seamless flow between the different areas of the house.
One of the main design challenges faced by Li Lang was the dining area, which was almost surrounded by aisles with no complete wall. To address this, the designer renovated the existing aisle, increasing the width of the projection wall. This allowed for a more normal sight distance and created a more immersive audio-visual experience.
The Smart Wall design stands out for its functional and generative approach. It not only addresses the layout challenges of the space but also adds a touch of elegance and joy to the overall design. The use of inclined walls and folding lines creates a dynamic and visually appealing environment, while the optimized layout enhances the functionality of the house.
The Smart Wall design project was carried out in Changsha, starting in April 2018 and completed in December 2019. The collaboration between Li Lang and the design team, including Chen Wenhua, Chen Lang, and Wu Hao, resulted in a successful transformation of the residential house.
Li Lang's Smart Wall design has been recognized for its excellence and innovation. The design was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2020 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Smart Wall design is respected for its integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, contributing to a better world.
The Smart Wall design, with its clever use of space and innovative approach, showcases Li Lang's talent and expertise in creating functional and aesthetically pleasing living spaces. It serves as an inspiration for those looking to optimize their own living environments and create a harmonious balance between form and function.
